Kempower, Charge Hub and partners expand EV charging infrastructure in Australia

16-Jun-2025

Finnish DC fast-charging solutions provider Kempower, in collaboration with Charge Hub, Addelec and Swan Group, is developing a significantly large electric bus charging depot in Bayswater, Perth, Australia. The under-construction facility is designed to charge 132 electric buses.

This planned facility should enhance Western Australia's public transport fleet and is set to be among the largest in the state equipped with Kempower's DC charging technology.

The initial phase involves delivering charging infrastructure for 132 buses, with operations expected to commence by mid-2026. The depot has been designed for future expansion, with the potential to service up to 180 buses. Kempower's modular system will provide flexible power distribution, enabling efficient overnight charging to ensure smooth daily operations.

The project is managed by Kempower's partner, Charge Hub, alongside Addelec and Swan Group. Charge Hub oversees the import, compliance and commissioning of the charging infrastructure, supporting Addelec in providing a reliable, future-oriented solution in line with the Public Transport Authority's (PTA) operational objectives.

Addelec will lead the installation, leveraging its national expertise in electric vehicle infrastructure, while Swan Group focuses on on-site delivery and project execution. Together, they aim to create a safe, efficient and scalable depot that meets the needs of the PTA and the contracted bus service provider.

The Bayswater depot is part of a broader initiative to reduce carbon emissions in public transport within Western Australia, with the PTA investing in the transition to electric buses across the Transperth network.

Paul Guy, managing director from Charge Hub, expressed support for PTA's electrification strategy, while Carlo Cecchi, director of New Markets from Kempower, highlighted the project as a milestone in Australia's decarbonization efforts, reinforcing Kempower's commitment to infrastructure investment throughout its life cycle.
