Rock Tech Lithium, Ronbay Technology sign MoU to localize battery materials supply chain in Europe

30-Jun-2025

Rock Tech Lithium Inc., a German-Canadian cleantech company, and mainland China-based Ronbay Technology Co. Ltd., signed a strategic memorandum of understanding to establish a localized integrated lithium-ion battery materials supply chain in Europe.

The partnership focuses on Rock Tech supplying battery-grade lithium hydroxide to Ronbay's cathode production facilities in Europe, which will support battery-related component production for European demand. Ronbay will back Rock Tech's Guben Converter development in Germany, offering technical resources and potential investment to expedite its progress.

Ronbay, a multinational company specializing in new energy materials, completed infrastructure developments at its Poland base, which it had acquired from Johnson Matthey. The company's European project, with commercial production expected to start in 2026, is a major element in its strategic expansion, aiming to strengthen its sales network and ensure efficient delivery of battery materials to European clients. Ronbay's project includes the production of mid- and high-nickel ternary cathode materials and other battery-related components.

The collaboration involves Rock Tech supplying lithium hydroxide from its Guben converter to Ronbay's operations, including at its Konin plant.

The Chinese materials company is also slated to provide support by introducing partners to aid in Rock Tech's Guben facility's development, while exploring the possibilities of joint investments and collaborations on market development in Europe.

Both companies are working toward a clean energy transition, with the agreement facilitating negotiations for binding legal agreements in the future.
