Suppliers TI Automotive and Nexteer are both moving headquarters in the near term, with further announcements made this week. TI Automotive, currently based in Auburn Hills, Michigan, United States, will move to a new building in the city, which will house corporate offices and a technical centre. TI said its current facility has no further capacity and it had considered moving some jobs out of Auburn Hills into offices in other states, reports Automotive News. TI is to receive a USD500,000 performance-based grant to support the move, which could be received later this year. Separately, Nexteer has announced more details of its plans to move headquarters from Saginaw, Michigan, to Auburn Hills. The company will move 150 jobs to the new offices by the second quarter of 2016. Nexteer president and COO Laurent Bresson told Crain's Detroit Business, "[Coming to] Auburn Hills provides us with a platform for long-term success and demonstrates our commitment to the state of Michigan and its talented auto industry workforce. This stand-alone location will position us closer to our business partners, industry experts and will continue enhancing the Nexteer brand."
Significance: The southeastern Detroit area continues to be home to a significant amount of engineering talent and a number of automotive suppliers, as well as OEMs. TI Automotive was acquired by Bain Capital recently and its move will consolidate jobs and result in an additional 97 jobs at its new headquarters. Nexteer first announced its planned move in February, with this week's announcement confirming the site of the new offices.
