In a press release announcement on 18 January 2023, Magna said that its advanced ClearView vision technology has made its production debut on the Ram 2500 and 3500 pickup trucks.
The system combines camera and mirror technology and has the potential to minimize blind-spot incidents and improve vehicle safety by increasing the vehicle's visibility. In addition to making it easier to park and maneuver the car, ClearView delivers additional advantages.
“ClearView showcases Magna’s unmatched ability to draw on the breadth of its capabilities and expertise to provide a full-system solution for consumers,” said Jeff Hunt, president, Magna Mirrors, Mechatronics and Lighting. “This unique synergy combines our leading vision-based expertise with our mirror capabilities to create an advanced technology that promotes safety and gives the driver more information about the immediate surroundings.”
Significance: The ClearView system consists of an internal rear-view video mirror, external mirrors with integrated cameras, and a high-mounted stop lamp camera located in the middle. Optionally available is a trailer camera that provides an unobstructed view when towing. Magna's software processes all camera data in a single electronic control unit.
The inside mirror features an attractive design and PACE Infinity glass from Magna. The first of its type on the market, drivers may toggle between an optical rear view and a video display that provides up to three camera views simultaneously.
In addition to the ability to zoom in and out, alter the brightness, rotate, or shift the pictures to the left, right, up, or down, the ClearView internal mirror display offers a variety of other configurable capabilities.
