Factorial Energy signed a nonbinding memorandum of understanding (MOU) with South Korean battery-maker SK On to assess manufacturing of its patented FEST solid-state battery technologies using the latter's network of more than 200 GWh in annual capacity.
The two companies plan to jointly evaluate technical feasibility and manufacturing requirements for Factorial’s solid-state battery technologies, including whether SK On’s existing lithium-ion battery infrastructure could support future development.
SK On has about 100 GWh of annual production capacity in the US. Its US footprint includes 22 GWh of capacity in Commerce, Georgia, as well as operations in Tennessee.
SK On supplies electric vehicle batteries to automotive OEMs, including Hyundai Motor Group, Ford, Volkswagen and Ferrari. The collaboration will draw on SK On’s battery technology, manufacturing expertise and global manufacturing capabilities, Factorial said.

Factorial said the agreement reflects its capital-light approach to industrialization, focused on developing batteries that can use established manufacturing infrastructure. The company said its solid-state platforms are designed for next-generation mobility, aerospace systems and hyperscale data centers.
