Company also opens its largest ultra-rapid charging station at Westfield Airport West, Melbourne
Chargefox has partnered with energy company Yurika to expand its electric vehicle (EV) charging network to Queensland Electric Super Highway in Australia, the company announced in a press release on 4 July. Chargefox will manage the 17 fast-charging sites that make up the Queensland Electric Super Highway. Chargefox users can now find, charge, and pay for charging sessions at any charger on the Queensland Electric Super Highway, which are capable of delivering up to 60 km of range per 15 minutes.
Additionally, Chargefox has salso opened its largest ultra-rapid charging station at Westfield Airport West, Melbourne. The station offers four 350-kW ultra-rapid and two 50-kW fast chargers. The ultra-rapid chargers are capable of charging up to 350 kW and can charge four cars simultaneously.
“Extending the Chargefox network to Cairns is a step forward for EV drivers in Queensland and across Australia. It provides further reassurance that EV ownership is a real option for new car buyers, and the connection simplifies charging dramatically for existing EV drivers. Our aim is to make EV charging as fast and easy as possible for all Australians, and we’re excited to be leading the way in delivering state-of-the-art infrastructure backed by renewable energy, like at this site. We’re transforming Australia from a global laggard to a leader in transport innovation, and part of this is future proofing our technology and infrastructure for many years to come,” said Marty Andrews, CEO of Chargefox.
Significance: Chargefox claims that the new ultra-rapid charging station in Melbourne is the most powerful EV charging station in the southern hemisphere. The company has installed ultra-rapid Tritium Veefill PK 350-kW chargers at the station, which can deliver up to 400 km of charge in 15 minutes (or 200 km of charge in 8 minutes), as well as two 50-kW DC Tritium Veefil-RT fast chargers, which can deliver 60 km per 15 minutes. Chargers are equipped with both CHAdeMO and CCS2 plug types, making them suitable for all current and future EVs, including Tesla when used with an adapter, excluding only low-range, AC-only EVs.
Chargefox has 5 ultra-rapid charging sites already open and another 17 in development. All 22 sites will be completed by the end of 2019. Chargefox has been operating charging stations across Australia and New Zealand for 18 months and has managed more than 32,000 charging sessions. Today, Chargefox has over 170 public chargers operating, including 40 Fast DC chargers. By the end of 2019, the Chargefox network will have over 100 Fast DC chargers operating. The full public network is growing toward thousands of chargers in the years to come. Chargefox is also an official partner of Jaguar Australia, having signed an agreement to provide five years’ free, unlimited charging on the Chargefox ultra-rapid charging network.
