Inside story of the Nissan Qashqai
While there is some debate over whether Nissan “invented” the crossover sport utility vehicle (SUV) with the launch of the Qashqai in 2007, its influence in making this vehicle type a global favorite is clear. This review focuses on the interior technologies and materials of the facelifted third-generation model.
Cabin materials
The interior focuses on practicality and features upgraded materials that differ by trim level. Base models come with durable plastics and fabrics, while higher-spec versions like the N-Design and Tekna+ use Alcantara materials on the dashboard, door panels and seats, giving a more premium feel. Other variants offer leather or leatherette finishes in stylish dual-tone designs. This combination of soft-touch surfaces and harder plastics in less visible areas offers an interior that is durable enough for everyday family use.
Cabin space
The practical cabin space provides ample room for tall adults in the front seats. The rear doors open to a wide 85 degrees, making it easier to access the back seats, especially when installing child seats. While headroom is generally good, the optional glass roof reduces it slightly. The trunk has a capacity of 504 liters, which is competitive for its class. However, the rear seats only split 60:40 and do not slide or recline, which limits flexibility when adjusting for cargo or passenger space.

Seating
The front seats offer solid support and comfortable cushioning, along with a range of adjustments to ensure comfort on longer journeys. Higher trims upgrade the upholstery to Alcantara or leather for a more premium feel. There is ample room in the back for two adults; however, fitting a third can be a squeeze due to the raised middle seat and floor hump. Passenger comfort and cargo space adaptability is somewhat limited since the rear seats do not slide or recline.
Infotainment and connectivity
The Qashqai is equipped with a 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen, standard across all variants, which includes wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto for easy smartphone integration. Most trim levels also feature Google built-in for navigation and voice control, while NissanConnect Services enable remote vehicle interaction through the MyNISSAN app. The system retains physical climate controls for user-friendly operation, making it a practical choice.
The Qashqai offers plenty of charging options, including both USB-A and USB-C sockets, as well as a standard 15W wireless charging pad available on all models except the Acenta Premium. However, some users have found that the wireless charger can be unreliable over bumps. The front storage console includes USB charging ports in the front compartment and rear seat charging-only ports (Type-A and Type-C) for added convenience.
On the road
The Qashqai N-Design e-Power delivers a smooth, quiet ride with responsive acceleration, characteristic of electric vehicles. The e-Pedal function allows for one-pedal driving, while real-world fuel economy averages around 53.4 mpg, making it efficient for various driving conditions.

Final thoughts
The interior strikes a solid balance between practicality and modern style, making it a strong contender in the compact SUV market. Up front, the seats are both supportive and comfortable, delivering a commanding driving position that many appreciate for long journeys. Higher trims feature upscale materials like Alcantara and leather, adding a touch of luxury that distinguishes it from competitors.
However, the design can feel somewhat bland, lacking the boldness seen in rivals like the Peugeot 3008. The rear seats are spacious enough for two adults, but fitting a third can be tight due to a raised middle seat and floor hump. The rear seats do not slide or recline, limiting their flexibility.
On the technology front, the 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen is a standout feature, offering wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. However, some users find the interface could be more intuitive. The decision to retain physical climate controls is a smart one, enhancing usability.
Overall, the Qashqai offers a comfortable and tech-savvy interior, although it could benefit from a bit more excitement to truly stand out.
