Bosch and Volkswagen (VW) Group software unit CARIAD have completed the joint development of assisted and automated driving functions under their Automated Driving Alliance. The partners have developed an artificial intelligence (AI)-based software stack that can be deployed across different vehicle segments, from entry-level to premium models, and on both electric and internal combustion engine (ICE) platforms. The technology will be available to both companies for future production programs. VW has indicated that the ID.EVERY1, scheduled for production in 2027, will incorporate technology developed through the alliance.
The collaboration focused on developing Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) that provide enhanced driver support, including hands-free driving capabilities in selected traffic situations. The use of AI is intended to improve the responsiveness and performance of driver assistance functions.
To develop and validate the system, Bosch and CARIAD conducted testing in Europe, Japan, and North America. The software was trained using data collected from dedicated development vehicles as well as fleets operated by logistics companies, leasing providers, and service organizations. These globally deployed fleets, numbering up to 1,500 vehicles, were also used to capture rare driving scenarios, or "corner cases," for system training and validation.
With the completion of the partnership's development phase, both companies now have access to the jointly created intellectual property and data. Bosch and CARIAD said they will use the results in future production programs and continue developing the technology independently.
