To support the introduction of a new Citroën model to be built at the factory by the end of 2016.

PSA Peugeot-Citroën is planning to launch a fourth shift at its Trnava (Slovakia) site requiring 800 additional staff, reports Tlacova Agentura Slovenskej Republiky (TASR). According to the news service, the move will be to support the introduction of a new Citroën model to be built at the factory by the end of 2016. The site's human resources director Lubomir Kollar said that the 800 workers to be added will include seven managers, 41 mid-level technicians, 225 highly qualified workers and 530 operators.

Significance: The addition of further workforce at the site will significantly increase numbers beyond the 3,500 people that it already employs. The move will be made in preparation for the production of the third-generation B-segment C3, which is moving from Poissy (France) and where it will join the Citroën C3 Picasso subcompact multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) and its sibling the B-segment Peugeot 208. The introduction of this model will help offset the decline that is expected to come from the 208 and the phasing out of the C3 Picasso. In 2017, the first full year in production, IHS Automotive anticipates production at the Trnava site will hit 358,000 units, and around 350,000 units is expected to be maintained until at least the end of the decade thanks to the second-generation 208.
