Company opted to develop and build its own sensor equipment

Waymo CEO John Krafcik spoke at a 2017 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) AutoMobili-D session, with news about further development of the Waymo (formerly Google) autonomous car development. Waymo announced that it has opted to develop and build its own sensor equipment. The sensors are now "deeply integrated" with the brain of the self-driving cars – the company's AI-compute platform.
