Toyota Research Institute releases progress on automated driving

TRI pursuing two projects simultaneously with an aim to launch fully self-driving driving cars in the next 5-10 years

This week, Toyota Research Institute (TRI), an independent subsidiary of Toyota, is showcasing investors the progress it has made in the development of automated driving technology, according to a press release by the Japanese automaker on 27 October. TRI has developed the next generation of its autonomous research vehicle called Platform 2.1, just six months after introducing the first generation, Platform 2.0. The company is showcasing Platform 2.1 for the first time on a closed-course. In addition, TRI said it has made significant progress in deep learning computer perception models that enable autonomous vehicle system to better understand vehicle surrounding, detect objects and predict a safer driving route.
