Automaker reports defect in airbag assembly sensor

Toyota has announced a recall of its RAV4 and Highlander vehicles in North America owing to problems with the curtain shield airbag assembly sensor, says Toyota Motor Sales (TMS) in a press release. The recall affects certain RAV4 models built in 2007 and 2008, while the Highlander vehicles affected were built in 2008. The voluntary recall will affect 214,000 RAV4 vehicles and 94,000 Highlander and Highlander HV vehicles. The recall comes following malfunctions of the sensors in the airbag control unit.
