Opel confirms Bochum plant will cease car manufacturing in 2016, may become component base
Opel has confirmed that its Bochum plant will definitely cease manufacturing cars when the current production of the Zafira ends in 2016.
General Motors' (GM's) Opel unit has confirmed that it will close its car manufacturing plant in Bochum, Germany, according to a company press release. The company has confirmed that it will not allocate any further production at the plant beyond the end of scheduled production of the current Zafira in 2016. It means that Bochum will be the first car manufacturing facility to close in Germany in the post-war period. Opel said the closure was the result of the "shrinking European car market and the overcapacities in the automotive industry."
