JCI to build 10 seat factories, battery plant in China
Currently controls 45% of the automotive seat market in China, and anticipates strong growth
Johnson Controls Inc (JCI) plans to build 10 more automotive seat plants in China over the next five years, reports Automotive News China. JCI currently has 56 plants in China, some of which are joint-venture facilities. Company CEO Steve Roell says JCI controls 45% of the automotive seat market in China, and anticipates strong growth. He declined to provide details of the locations of the planned plants. China generates CNY31 billion (USD 5 billion) in sales annually for JCI. The company also plans to build a facility in Tianjin, China, to supply automakers and the aftermarket in China with lead-acid starter batteries and advanced batteries for Start-Stop vehicles
