New Datsun models to use AvtoVAZ platforms
New Datsun models will utilise a re-engineered version of the Kalina platform with modular elements
The new low-cost Datsun models that Nissan is proposing for emerging markets are to be built on Lada's Kalina platform, according to Nissan's executive vice-president for Africa, the Middle East, India, and Europe, Colin Dodge. In an interview with Automotive News Europe (ANE), Dodge said that the new Datsun models will utilise a re-engineered version of the Kalina platform with modular elements, using shared elements such as braking and fuel systems, as well as steering mechanics. However, there will be significant changes to the model to distinguish it from the Lada Kalina. Dodge said: "The upper body and interior will be completely different. You won't notice it as a Lada."
