Maruti plans another assembly plant in Gujarat
The plan underlines the long-term positive outlook for the Indian auto market in addition to Suzuki's ambitions of growing exports in Asia, where the automaker is focusing after recently exiting the US market.
India's leading carmaker Maruti Suzuki plans to establish another assembly plant in Gujarat, according to a report in the Economic Times. "We are looking for a second location and the land is being acquired currently. We are saturated in Haryana with no scope of expansion. We would have a similar two-location model in Gujarat that would be developed and expanded in accordance with market demand," Maruti chairman R. C. Bhargava was quoted as saying in the report. Although no formal announcement has been made as yet, the same will be disclosed later this week during Suzuki Motor Corporation chairman Osamu Suzuki's visit to India. Suzuki Motor Corporation is the largest shareholder in Maruti Suzuki with a majority stake of 54% in the Indian subsidiary.
