General Motors (GM) to invest USD600 mil. in expanding Kansas assembly plant
Part of GM's move to invest USD1.5 billion this year in its North American plants
General Motors (GM) plans to invest USD600 million in its Fairfax assembly plant in Kansas, reports Bloomberg, citing GM chief executive officer (CEO) Dan Akerson who announced the investment, speaking to workers yesterday. The event was attended by Kansas Governor Sam Brownback and Kansas City Mayor Joe Reardon. The investment will go towards construction of a new paint shop and installation of a new stamping press, the automaker said in a statement on its website. The plant employs about 3,900 people and builds the Chevrolet Malibu and Buick LaCrosse sedans. Construction of the paint shop is expected to begin later this year and should take two years to complete.
