To build the model at the automaker's joint-venture (JV) plant in Nanjing

Mazda will begin production of a sports utility vehicle (SUV) in China this year. According to reports in the local Chinese media, Mazda will build the model at the automaker's joint-venture (JV) plant in Nanjing. The first SUV to be produced will be the CX-5. Mazda and its partner, Changan Automobile, have become a 50:50 JV following the Chinese government's approval for the three-way Changan-Ford Mazda Automobile (CFMA) JV to be disbanded into two separate JVs. The Changan Mazda JV is said to be headquartered in Nanjing and will take control of the CFMA plant in Nanjing; Changan Ford will use the Chongqing base.
