BASF supplies a highly reinforced polyamide to be used in the front end carrier of the new Volkswagen Golf 7.
World’s first front end carrier to be made from plastic without metal reinforcement .
BASF has supplied Ultramid® B3WG8 and Ultrasim®, a highly reinforced polyamide, to be used in the front end carrier of the new Volkswagen Golf 7. This is the world’s first front end carrier which is made without metal reinforcement and is made from plastic. BASF explains that to replace the previous polypropylene hybrid part with an all-plastic part, Ultramid® B3WG8 and Ultrasim®. This eliminates the sheet steel parts which has reduced the weight of the front end module significantly compared to the previous model.
