Response to increasing demand for models featuring SKYACTIV technology and desire to strengthen its global production footprint.

Mazda today (30 January) confirmed its plan to invest JPY26 billion (USD287 million) to construct a transmission plant in Thailand's Chonburi Province, having an annual production capacity of approximately 400,000 units. Mazda has decided to establish the plant in order to respond to increasing demand for models featuring SKYACTIV technology and to strengthen its global production footprint. With around 500 employees, the new plant is expected to start operations in the first half of the fiscal year (FY) ending March 2016. The plant will be located approximately five kmnorth of Mazda's joint venture (JV) production facility with Ford, AutoAlliance (Thailand), and will supply automatic transmissions for SKYACTIV models produced at Mazda vehicle production facilities around the world.
