Honda to establish new Thai plant, plans to invest USD575 mil.
Coming on the heels of the expansion of its plant in Ayutthaya, Honda's move to build a new plant in Thailand is intended to support expected growth in the local subcompact market and boost exports.
Honda plans to invest 17.15 billion baht (USD575.3 million) in a new vehicle-assembly and engine plant in Thailand, the automaker has said in a statement on its website. The plant is expected to become operational in 2015, with an initial production capacity of 120,000 units. To be based on Honda's newly acquired property in Prachinburi province, the facility will employ 1,200 workers initially. Although Honda has not provided an update on when it plans to start work on the new site, a report in the Bangkok Post has claimed that construction at the site in Rojana Industrial Park will start in July.
