Toyota begins assembly of Land Cruiser Prado in Russia, Chevrolet to follow with Trailblazer

Foreign OEMs being encouraged to form manufacturing JVs with local producers by the Russian government's new automotive industry policy.

Toyota has announced that it has begun assembly of its Land Cruiser Prado in Russia. According to a statement released by the automaker, the vehicles are being built by Sollers-Bussan at a site in Vladivostok (Russia). Around 300 staff will be involved in the process that will assemble kits supplied by Toyota at a rate of around 1,000 units per month (upm). Vehicles will be shipped across the country using the Trans-Siberian railway.
