Ford confirms USD200-mil. investment in Ohio engine plant
To move production base for the engine from Valencia, Spain
Ford has confirmed in a press release a USD200-million investment in its Ohio (US) engine plant, which will then start the first domestic production of 2.0-litre, four-cylinder EcoBoost engines. The Cleveland engine plant in Brook Park is expected to start production of the engines in late 2014, creating 450 jobs. The 2.0-litre engine is currently manufactured only at Valencia in Spain, from where it is exported to other destinations including the US. The Cleveland plant currently manufactures the 3.5-litre EcoBoost V-6. Speaking on the development, Joe Hinrichs, Ford president for the Americas, said that demand for EcoBoost engines "has frankly exceeded our expectations," which is the reason behind the shift in production bases. Valencia will continue to produce the engine for Europe.
