Modern warfare in the global auto industry is being waged above all with mega-platforms, and the consensus is that Volkswagen has the advantage. Executives at Toyota, GM, Ford and Nissan-Renault have noted the high level of shared componentry already found in VW models, and they are in hot pursuit with similar strategies, thus making for an industrywide trend that has enormous consequences for global suppliers.
