General Motors (GM) to move Encore engine production to South Korea
To end third shift at Flint, MI USA
General Motors (GM) is moving production of Buick Encore engines to South Korea from next month, reports The Detroit News. Consequently, the automaker will be laying off 104 workers at its Flint Engine Plant in Michigan. The layoffs will start in April when the third shift working at the plant will be ended. Out of the total, 44 employees are involved in production, 20 are skilled-trades workers and 40 are temporary employees. The company did not specify for how long the employees would be on layoff. Last month, the company started shipping the all-new Buick Encore, which is imported from South Korea, to its dealers. The plant has more than 900 employees and the layoffs are not expected to affect the production of 1.4-litre engines produced for the Chevrolet Volt, Cruze and Sonic.
