Nissan considering setting up assembly plant for Infiniti in North America
Nissan plans to produce at least 100,000 Infiniti units annually through the plant.
Japanese carmaker Nissan is considering establishing a new plant in North America to manufacture its premium Infiniti vehicles, reports Dow Jones. The report cites Infiniti Motor president Johan de Nysschen, who joined the luxury brand last year, as saying "One of the challenges we face is that we really do not have a diversified geographical footprint for manufacturing". Nissan plans to produce at least 100,000 Infiniti units annually through the plant, and create approximately 2,000 jobs, with operations expected to begin by 2017. No decision has been taken by the company about the exact location of the plant and, as such, Mexico, the US, and Canada are all being considered. Nissan projects an investment of about USD2 billion in the plant.
