BMW India starts local assembly of Mini Countryman
Mini is the first premium small car to be locally manufactured in India.
BMW India has started local assembly of its Mini Countryman model at its Chennai plant in the state of Tamil Nadu, reports the Press Trust of India. In addition to the Mini model, the automaker will start producing the 7-Series and 1-Series this year at the plant. The Chennai plant, BMW's sole assembly operation in India, currently produces the 3-Series and 5-Series cars in addition to the X1 and X3 sport utility vehicles (SUVs). "With the production of [the] Mini Countryman at the BMW Plant Chennai, Mini is the first premium small car to be locally manufactured in India and expects significant growth over the medium and long-term," the automaker said in a statement.
