Mitsubishi to cut domestic output by 20%
Consolidating four production lines into two
Mitsubishi plans to cut back production capacity at its main Mizushima plant in western Japan by consolidating four production lines there into two around December this year, reports the Nikkei financial daily. While this will reduce the plant's production capacity to 350,000 vehicles per year from the current 600,000, Mitsubishi's total annual domestic production capability will get reduced by around 26% to 700,000 vehicles per year. The automaker, however, will increase focus on production of mini-vehicles at the Mizushima plant, anticipating growing demand, the Nikkei said. The output reduction will affect approximately 3,050 employees, who will be retained.
