Ford to invest USD1.1 bil. in Kansas plant expansion
The move will add a new shift at the plant
Ford has announced it plans to make an investment of USD1.1 billion towards retooling and expanding its Kansas City Assembly Plant in Missouri to produce more of its F-Series pickup trucks and a new Transit commercial van according to a press release from the company. "Customer demand for today's F-150 is strong and continues growing, the truck segment is growing three times faster than the overall industry, the housing market is strengthening, and we are seeing growth in the U.S. economy," said Joe Hinrichs, Ford's president for American markets. The move will add a new shift at the plant – creating 2,000 jobs half of which will be new hires. Around 900 jobs will be added in the new shift that is likely to start in the third quarter this year. The other 1,100 workers will be deployed in fourth quarter to boost output of Ford's Transit full-size van.
