The CEO of Nissan's Spanish operation, Nissan Motor Iberica, has suggested that the automaker's Barcelona (Spain) site could benefit from further vehicle manufacturing contracts in the short term. Frank Torres told Expansion that "labour agreements achieved and the steps being taken by the company to further improve the competitiveness make it very possible that the Barcelona plant vehicles will get further awards". Speaking at an event held by Barcelona's Chamber of Commerce, he said that with the three new models already allocated, the automaker will have the ability to produce 210,000 units per annum (upa) by 2015. However, with the latest agreement, up to 260,000 units could be built, enabling more vehicles to be built without requiring investment to increase capacity.
