Ford Focus EV production begins in Saarloius, Germany
Follows investment of EUR16 million (USD21.3 million) to integrate Focus Electric production directly into the established Focus production line at Saarlouis
Ford has begun manufacturing the electric vehicle (EV) variant of the Ford Focus at its Saarloius plant in Germany, according to a company press release. The company has been manufacturing the Focus Electric (as the model is known) in the United States since December 2011, but this marks the beginning of European production. Ford is also set to launch a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEVs) over the next 12 months, with the Focus EV being joined by the C Max Energi PHEV and the all-new Mondeo hybrid.
