Automakers opposing US safety agency initiative terming it as burdensome, impractical and duplicative of existing systems

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is close to finalising an online database which will allow some 240 million car and truck owners and new buyers in the US to see if their vehicles have been recalled, reports The Detroit News.
