Mazda sets up new transmission plant in Thailand

To supply automatic transmissions for "Skyactive" models produced at Mazda vehicle production facilities around the world.

Japanese automaker Mazda has established a new subsidiary company, Mazda Powertrain Manufacturing (Thailand) Company Limited (MPMT), in Thailand's Chonburi province, reports a company press release. Under MPMT's umbrella, Mazda will set up a new JPY26-billion (USD287-million) vehicle transmission plant at the location, having an annual production capacity of approximately 400,000 units. Spread over a total area of 209,000 square metres and having a building space of 49,000 square metres, the facility will employee approximately 500 people at the start of its operations in the first half of the fiscal year (FY) ending 31 March 2016.
