Honda starts production at new domestic plant in Yorii
Will reportedly take over the functions of the Sayama assembly line, which will be closed.
Honda said yesterday (9 July) that it had started production at a new domestic factory in Yorii, Saitama Prefecture, reports the Nikkei financial daily. The facility, which employs roughly 2,000 workers and is capable of producing 250,000 vehicles annually, started assembling Freed minivans yesterday, with production of the next-generation Fit scheduled to begin in September. Honda has incorporated new production technologies in the Yorii plant, including a paint line that uses 35% less power than a similar line at its facility in Sayama, Saitama Prefecture. This technology will also be used in upcoming Honda factories in Mexico and Thailand that are due to come on stream next year or later.
