Honda begins constructing new Thai plant
Scheduled to become operational in 2015 with an initial annual production capacity of 120,000 units
Honda has started construction of its new vehicle assembly and engine plant in Thailand, reports Bloomberg. Located in the Rojana Industrial Park in the eastern province of Prachinburi, the plant involves an investment of THB17.2 billion (USD575.3 million. Honda plans to produce small and subcompact vehicles at the plant, which is scheduled to become operational in 2015 with an initial annual production capacity of 120,000 units. The facility will employ 1,200 people and supply vehicles to the domestic market as well as other parts of Southeast Asia and countries in Oceania, the Middle East, and Africa. Meanwhile, Honda plans to increase annual capacity at its existing plant in Ayutthaya to 300,000 units in 2014. The new plant in Prachinburi, coupled with investment in the Ayutthaya plant, will boost Honda's Thai production capacity to 420,000 units per year by 2015.
