Guangzhou Honda to build Acura in China
To begin discussing concrete plans toward a goal to begin local production of Acura brand vehicles at Guangzhou Honda Automobile (GHAC) in 2016.
Honda will begin production of its Acura brand in China. In a press release, Honda stated that together with its joint venture (JV) partner Guangzhou Automobile, an agreement has been signed on 17 July to "jointly conduct Acura business in China." With the signing of the agreement, the two companies will begin discussing concrete plans toward a goal to begin local production of Acura brand vehicles at Guangzhou Honda Automobile (GHAC) in 2016. At the Shanghai Motor Show in April, the Acura Concept SUV-X was exhibited, a concept vehicle for a small sport utility vehicle (SUV) developed primarily for the Chinese market. Acura announced plans to begin local production and sales in China of a mass-production model based on this concept vehicle in the next three years.
