German government defends Daimler in refrigerant row
Considers Daimler's actions to be within the law.
The German government has written to the European Union (EU) to back Daimler in the row over the latter's refusal to use a new air-conditioning refrigerant which has led to France blocking the sale of certain Mercedes-Benz passenger car types. According to Dow Jones report the German government sent a nine page response to the EU's letter which threatened the German government with action if Daimler continues to refuse to use the HFO-1234yf refrigerant because of what it sees as an unacceptable fire risk in the event of an accident. Commenting on the issues a German government transport ministry spokesman said: "The German government considers Daimler's actions to be within the law."
