Nissan makes application to expand Sunderland, UK site
Model replacements coming plus a further model to be added at the site in 2015.
Nissan has applied to local authorities to extend its site in Sunderland (United Kingdom), reports Reuters. The automaker has requested approval from Sunderland city council to expand the factory by 2,300 square metres to enlarge the body and paint shops, as well as trim, chassis and press facilities. A spokesman for Nissan told the news service: "If approved, these extensions will support the continued growth of Nissan's UK operations, reflecting the success of models manufactured in the UK including [Nissan's] Qashqai, Juke, Note and the 100% electric Nissan Leaf." The person added that once production of new models kicks off, capacity at the plant will "go beyond 550,000 [units per annum (upa)]."
