PSA has announced that has launched a new small diesel engine project. According to the automaker, the new family of engines known as DV-R will replace its current range of 1.4-litre and 1.6-litre engines from 2017. It added that it will initially manufacture the engine at its Française de Mécanique facility in Douvrin (France) supported by the investment of EUR60 million (USD79.1 million), and with annual capacity of 640,000 engines per annum. It will bring onstream a further 640,000 units of production capacity at its Trémery (France) facility in 2018.
Significance: DV-R – also known as "DV NEO" – is a project which aims to use a full array of technical solutions to reduce carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions by up to 10% on this new 1.5-litre engine. This will include areas such as combustion, air loop architecture, fuel system and coolant circulation and its launch will coincide with the introduction of Euro 6.2 emission regulations. IHS Automotive expects that this engine will be available in 55kW, 75kW, 88kW and 100kW. As well as in France, the engine is also expected to be produced in the United Kingdom by Ford at its Dagenham plant for its own use.
