Along with the Ford investment, the Canadian government will contribute up to CAD71.6 million (USD69.6 million), through an Automotive Innovation Fund introduced in January.

Ford announced the Oakville, Ontario, plant investment yesterday (September 19), providing some details but declining to confirm which specific models will join the assembly line. The investment will go to upgrade the body shop and transition from the architecture under the Ford Edge and Lincoln MKX, which is being discontinued. Ford declined to comment on which platform is going into the plant. The project will be completed during the second half of 2014 – without major interruption to current vehicle production -- and secures 2,800 jobs.
