Nissan announces plans for Myanmar production by 2015
Nissan becomes the first large-scale light vehicle manufacturer to invest in manufacturing since democratic reforms led to investment sanctions being withdrawn.
Nissan has announced plans to begin vehicle production in Myanmar. According to a statement, the company intends to start manufacture in the country during 2015 at a site in Bago (Myanmar) that will be operated by its partner Tan Chong Motors. The automaker's chief executive officer (CEO) Carlos Ghosn, who met with Myanmar's vice-president U Nyan Tun on Friday (20 September), said that this will initially create 300 jobs at a site with the capacity to produce around 10,000 units per annum (upa) at first.
