Renault begins Algerian plant construction
Will broaden Algerian industrial capabilities, not only with the plant itself, but also through the creation of a network of suppliers.
Renault has begun construction work at its first Algerian plant in Oued-Tlelat, the company says in a statement sent to IHS Automotive. The plant is scheduled to begin production of Renault's Symbol supermini car in November 2014. In its first phase, the new plant will produce 25,000 units annually and employ 350 people. Production capacity will be raised gradually to 75,000 units in the second phase, as per an undisclosed schedule. Renault will produce passenger cars and light commercial vehicles in Algeria under a joint venture (JV) with the Algerian government for the local market. The JV is named Renault Algérie Production.
