Production to return to almost 2.9 million units by 2018, as Ford and Opel bring new models to the country
Spanish passenger car production has risen 15% year on year (y/y) during August, according to the latest data published by ANFAC. The trade association said in a statement that the number of passenger cars built during the month increased to 51,884 units. The improvement this month has helped its year-to-date (YTD) figures rise by 10.2% y/y to 1.148 million units. Sport utility vehicle (SUV) production was also lifted by 22.9% y/y to 1,261 units, although this did little for its YTD which has now retreated by 32.4% y/y to 25,992 units. However, light commercial vehicle output has slumped by 40.0% y/y to 3,468 units, dragging its YTD into negative territory with fall of 0.2% y/y to 132,542 units.
