Dongfeng starts construction of EV assembly plant

New Chinese government incentives prompting automakers to scale up plans to develop and produce electric vehicles.

Dongfeng has broken ground for the construction of a new plant to be used to produce electric vehicles (EVs) and plug-in hybrid EVs (PHEVs) in China, reports Automotive News China. The plant, located in Wuhan, is expected to start production towards the end of 2014. Dongfeng will invest CNY2.4 billion (USD390 million) in the plant, which will start with an initial annual production capacity of 160,000 units. Dongfeng is based in Wuhan and already operates a plant in the city.
