OEM Purchasing

Tesla has been looking for a second battery supplier, and may have settled on Samsung.

Samsung SDI, a division of Korea's Samsung Electronics, has been in talks with Tesla on a deal to become a supplier for the electric vehicle (EV) company. According to a Reuters report, nothing concrete came from the talks, but two sources have confirmed that the companies are close to 90% complete on a new deal. However, a third source contradicts this expectation, saying that the Samsung battery is not competitive with the Panasonic battery that is currently used (Panasonic is an investor as well as a supplier). The batteries in question would be earmarked for the 2015 Tesla Model X.
