Plastic Omnium introduces blend of materials into lightweighting efforts
Plastic parts rimmed in steel that can be applied to the body in white with spot welds in the body shop have moved from Plastic Omnium’s technical centre into series production.
The wheel wells in the boots of the Peugeot 308 and 308 SW, as well as the 5- and 7-seat models of the Citroen C4 Picasso, are all made of thermoset plastic. The SMC plastic is surrounded by a steel insert that can be handled and spot welded to the body in white in the body shop.
