To downsize production amid falling export orders.

Toyota announced today (15 October) it is to make up to 100 voluntary redundancies at its Altona plant in Melbourne in Australia's Victoria state in order to downsize production amid falling export orders, reports Reuters. The drop in export orders has made its current level of manufacturing production "unsustainable", the company said in a statement. The job cuts will be completed by the end of November as the automaker seeks to curtail production from 470 to 430 vehicles a day from December. Toyota Australia president and CEO Max Yasuda said: "We are now seeing gaps in our plans that must be closed to secure investment for the next generation vehicle and to maintain our export programme."
