Iveco to begin local production in South Africa from mid-2014
Assembling SKD units locally will save Iveco 14% in import duties in the country.
Italian truck-maker Iveco plans to begin manufacturing semi-knocked down (SKD) commercial vehicles in South Africa from mid-2014, reports the Cape Times. Last year, Iveco formed a joint venture (JV) with South Africa's Larimar Group for local assembly of trucks and buses. The JV, in which Iveco holds a stake of 60%, has a plant under construction in Rosslyn near Pretoria.
