Mercedes-Benz to invest USD302 million in South Africa
Local annual output to 100,000 units from the current volume of 60,000 units.
Mercedes-Benz plans to invest ZAR3 billion (USD302 million) in its South African plant in West Bank, East London, reports the Mail & Guardian. The investment is aimed at increasing the automaker's local annual output to 100,000 units from the current volume of 60,000 units. Mercedes will introduce new technology and a third shift at the East London plan to realise its goal. The automaker's decision comes despite other automakers' concerns over labour instability in South Africa, following the strike action seen in August and September.
