Government denies reports GM Holden to exit Australia in 2016
Ongoing speculation adds to the uncertainty regarding Holden's future in the country.
The federal government has denied media reports that GM Holden will exit Australia in 2016. The government was responding to a report by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation that claimed that parent company General Motors (GM) in the United States had already decided to close its Holden car manufacturing operations in Australia. The report stated that GM planned to make an announcement this week but had put it off until early next year. Industry Minister Ian Macfarlane dismissed the report, stating that consultations are still ongoing. Holden has also denied the report.
